Micro Rosaura

The appearance of women on the stage is closely connected with the diffusion of the Commedia dell’Arte in Europe in the seventeenth century. It represents a revolutionary turning point in the history of the theatre, which had banned the presence of women for centuries. Made up and disguised young men who had played women’s role by speaking in falsetto were replaced by glamorous comic actresses who were full of life and rich in abilities and who were capable of attracting and fascinate an increasingly wide public. Among the first women who appear in the Commedia dell’Arte we find the nurse, a mature woman, expert of life, who used to nursed the young lady when she was a baby. Over the years, she has become her confidante and accomplice in love affairs.
